The Venue - Aberystwyth University
The CERMAT2 Summer School will take place at the Department of Mathematics at Aberystwyth University.
Aberystwyth is a historic town, administrative centre, popular holiday resort once known as 'The Biarritz of Wales' - and, since 1872, a university town beautifully located by the sea among the green hills of Mid-Wales. Its charming atmosphere and special vibe that are dispersed from the ruins of medieval castle to the seafront lined with Victorian houses, the traditional pier and and up to the university campus atop Penglais hill make living here enjoyable for both residents and visitors of the town.
Established in 1872 after a long fund-raising campaign, Aberystwyth University was the first Welsh university-status institution and experienced a rich and eventful history since. Many of its academic departments were the first of their kind in Wales - or, as in case with International Politics, the university pioneered altogether new disciplines.
Aberystwyth is also proud of its contribution to women's education and equal rights, becoming one of the first British universities to admit female students as early as in 1884.
The tradition of mathematical education and research here is the longest in Wales, as mathematics has been taught at Aberystwyth University since its founding year.
